Naskah Nagarakertagama atau Desawarnana ini adalah
sebuah kakawin Jawa Kuno, sebagai tanda
penghormatan dan pengagungan terhadap Sri Rajasanagara (Hayam Wuruk, meninggal
1389), raja Kerajaan Majapahit, penerus Dinasti Rajasa yang mulai dari Raja
Kerajaan Singasari (Tumapel), Sri Ranggah Rajasa Sang Amurwahbumi (1182-1927M).
Ditulis
oleh Mpu Prapanca pada tahun saka 1287 (1365
M). Nagara Kertagama menggambarkan tata Hukum, Administrasi, Keberadaan
atau
eksitensi dan aturan agama Budha di dalam kerajaan Majapahit, Tesk
naskah asli
dan penerjemahan dalam dua bahasa yaitu Indonesia dan Inggris, kalau ada
bahan mungkin 3 juga dengan bahasa Belanda, Bahasa Indonesia
mengikuti aturan terjemahan yang dibuat Prof DR Slamet Mulyana, dan
Bahasa Inggris atas hasil
penerjemahan Theodor Pigeaud, “14Java in the 14th Century. A Study in
Cultural History”, 5 vols., The Hague 1960-1963.
